A global catalog server is a server that contains a partial replica of every object in Active Directory. This allows clients to search for objects in Active Directory without having to contact every domain controller in the forest. Checking a global catalog server can be done using the following steps:
1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers. 2. In the console tree, right-click the domain that you want to check and select Properties. 3. On the General tab, click the Global Catalog checkbox. 4. Click OK.
