Maternity leave is a period of time off work that is taken by a woman after she has given birth to a child. During maternity leave, the woman is entitled to receive Employment Insurance (EI) benefits from the government. In Manitoba, there are two types of maternity leave: standard maternity leave and extended maternity leave. Standard maternity leave is 15 weeks long, while extended maternity leave is 18 weeks long.
To apply for maternity leave in Manitoba, you must submit an application to Service Canada. The application must be submitted within 12 months of the date of birth of your child. You can apply for maternity leave online, by mail, or by phone.
